Alcohol May Have Been a Factor in Fatal Crash East of Town

Revelstoke RCMP are reporting a fatality on Highway one east of Revelstoke. At approximately 7:40 pm on Monday January 20th, 2020 the Revelstoke RCMP were dispatched to a two vehicle collision approximately 35 kms east of Revelstoke on the Trans-Canada Highway. The collision involved a commercial vehicle and a passenger truck.

Staff Sergeant Kurt Grabinsky’s press release notes that BC Ambulance Service, Revelstoke Fire Rescue Service and the Revelstoke RCMPolice arrived on scene. The eastbound commercial tractor trailer and westbound pickup truck were located.

“The driver of the passenger truck was deceased on scene. The driver of the commercial vehicles sustained serious neck and back injuries. The commercial driver was transported to the Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke,” the release notes.

The release goes on to read – The Trans Canada East Traffic Services unit of the RCMP arrived on scene along with the RCMP Traffic Analyst. Through the course of the investigation it was determined that the passenger truck had struck another tractor trailer vehicle approximately 1 km earlier, and then went head on into the second tractor trailer. Alcohol may have been a factor. Other vehicle drivers that happened along the collision scene attempted to offer first aid. The deceased driver is from Alberta.”

Road conditions were rated as “good winter driving” with temperatures at approximately -5 C with clear roads., and excellent visibility.

The Trans-Canada Highway was closed until the investigation was concluded and the vehicles could be removed from the road by a local towing company. The road was re-opened by approximately 1:30 am on Tuesday January 21, 2020.
