In an effort to ensure the safety of the public, Parks Canada has closed the Nels Nelson ski jump area due to the avalanche risk after a glide crack formation. This is a popular tobogganing and hiking area, but for the time being, keep out. Failure to do so can result in hefty fines. The public bulletin notes the following:
WHERE: The Nels Nelsen Ski Jump area.
WHY: Elevated avalanche danger due to glide crack formation.
PENALTY: Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act. Maximum penalty $25,000.
