Overview of Operations of the Canadian Avalanche Association
The Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) is a non-government, not-for-profit organization that serves and supports the diverse community of professional avalanche operations in Canada. The CAA establishes technical standards, delivers specialized programs and services, and represents the avalanche community to external stakeholders. The programs and services of the CAA have helped to create and continue to foster the world-class professional operating environment for front-line avalanche safety operations in Canada.
InfoEx is a daily web-based exchange of technical snow, weather, avalanche and terrain information between subscribers, and can also be used as a record keeping system.
Subscribers are organizations and commercial businesses who actively manage avalanche hazards during the winter months (e.g. heliskiing companies, BC Highways, ski areas, mountain parks). InfoEx is a Canadian service giving avalanche professionals access to data that is accurate, relevant and real time. This knowledge improves each subscriber’s awareness of conditions in the other subscribers’ operating areas, greatly enhancing their ability to manage their local avalanche risks.
InfoEx also serves as one of the key sources of data used by Avalanche Canada’s public avalanche forecasters to produce and verify their products. The value of the InfoEx contribution to public avalanche safety is estimated at an excess of $2 million annually.
The CAA offers a flexible working environment. Joining the InfoEx team provides opportunities to visit and engage with Canada’s most dynamic and diverse avalanche operations including heli/cat skiing, ski resorts, mountain parks, highways avalanche control programs, Avalanche Canada and more.
