It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Edith Elizabeth (Babs) Defoe at Mt. Cartier Court Extended Care, Revelstoke, on Wednesday May 13 th, 2020 at the age of 96 years.

Babs was a life-long resident, born on August 12, 1923 to a Revelstoke pioneer family, Edith May (Abrahamson) and James William Bell.

Her great grandfather, Otto Abrahamson, a contractor and former Mayor, was instrumental in constructing many well- known buildings in Revelstoke including the original Queen Victoria Hospital, the Revelstoke Golf Course Clubhouse, the Selkirk Hotel, now part of the Regent Hotel and many other local landmarks.

Babs was predeceased by her loving husband “Joey”, her brother Dr. William Bell and his wife Lois of Victoria B.C., as well as many other dearest family members. Babs is survived by her three devoted daughters: Darlene Defoe of Revelstoke, Debbie (Doug) of Kelowna, Lois (Mark) McKay of Revelstoke: three grandchildren, Darren, Carley (Adam) and Mathew (April): three great grandchildren, Isabella, Harper and Gracie, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom was an outstanding homemaker and loved being in the kitchen baking and preparing meals for her family and friends. She always said “if you cook with love it will always taste delicious” and it did!

She also was an accomplished seamstress, avid reader, music lover, and a brilliant crossword solver. Above all Mom’s greatest joy was her family for whom she could never do enough for.

Mom’s outlook on life was inspiring! We were so blessed to have a mother who embraced each day with optimism, patience, encouragement, grace and pure love in her heart! “Thank You Mom,” you will be dearly missed, lovingly remembered and cherished always!

The family wish to express special “Thanks and Appreciation” to all the amazing care aides, nurses, doctors and staff at The Cottages, for their kindness, compassion and exceptional care of Mom during her stay with them. She greatly appreciated each and every one of you as did we!

A private family graveside service was held at Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke.
