Keneth Kushner quietly passed away on June 4 th , 2019 at the age of 77 years at Mt. Cartier Court Extended Care, Revelstoke. He had a debilitating, degenerative illness during the last few years.
Ken was born in Vernon, B.C. on May 21, 1942 and grew up in the close-knit community of Oyama on the family’s orchard. As a young man, he obtained his pilot’s license. Flying remained his life-long passion.
Ken moved to Trail in 1965. He married Trudy Luscombe and began a family with daughters Heather and Kim. At that time, he began working as a yardman for C.P. Rail and later as a conductor in Revelstoke until his retirement in 2008.
In 1967 he joined the Trail Flying Club. He was an active member and spent many years planning events and coordinating annual Fly-Ins. When he moved to Revelstoke in 1986, he married Vicki Ashman and welcomed a son, Kenny to his family. He became an active member of the Revelstoke Flying Club, worked with CASARA Air Search and Rescue and helped operate the Revelstoke Airport. He was an avid hobbyist who built several model airplanes and joined the local RC Club.
Ken’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his family. His legacy lives on in his three children: Heather (Darren) Macnab of Victoria, Kim (Jim) Rienks of Revelstoke, Kenny Kushner of Kelowna and his grandchildren: Konnor, Eric, Milena and Brendan. He leaves behind his wife of 15 years, Verna Myers Kushner and is also survived by his brother Ray, sisters Kristine and Cherry, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Blessedly released from his body’s painful burden, he joins his mother Stella, father Frank, and brothers Chris and Gordon. He is now flying high and free, and the weather is fair.
A Celebration will take place at the Revelstoke Flying Club on Saturday, June 22, 2019. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. More details can be found at:
