May 27, 1928 to October 29, 2019
Honey Joe was born near Lucerne Switzerland to parents Xavier (died 1962) and Ida (died 1975). During his early years Joe learned from his father to work with bees, a passion that would remain with him for his life. In 1949 as an exchange student Joe went to Norway. From there in 1951 Joe immigrated to Canada, starting on Vancouver Island where he worked at various logging camps. In 1962 Joe moved to the Revelstoke/ Albert Canyon area for the mountains. Joe worked various jobs including on the railroad and logging. Joe was for a time, the fire warden at Albert Canyon.
Ultimately Joe owned and operated a very successful shake and shingle business, Interior Rustic Cedar Ltd. Sometime in the mid-70s Mueller Apiaries appeared. Joe at one time had several hundred hives in Alberta and BC. Joe completely retired from the bee business in 2007. In the early 90s Joe moved into town and got involved in Federal
politics and enjoyed a lively passionate participation. Joe was a known to be a very kind and soft- spoken man. Over the years Joe taught, mentored and befriended many. Although the voice of the teacher is silent, the legacy lives on in beekeeping circles and through all the people who have benefitted from his knowledge, counsel and practical skills.
Joe appreciated all of the kind support he received over the years. Special thanks to Dr. Molder, Dr. McCarroll, his favorite lab ladies, nurses, ambulance staff, home care ladies and the many wonderful friends and neighbours that supported him in so many ways.
There will be an informal gathering on November 8 th . 2019 from 1 to 3 pm at Begbie Manor Common Room, 1214 Downie Street, Revelstoke.
