Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services and Revelstoke RCMP ready to battle it out on the ice

The puck drops this Friday, February 7th, 7:00 pm at the forum as the Revelstoke RCMP and the Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services battle it out for charity in the annual Cops vs Firefighters showdown.

The Revelstoke RCMP have taken the cup three years in a row, and this year, the Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services is ready to snap their losing streak.

“We plan to take the cup back from the cops,” says Firefighter Matt Robinson. “We have called in a couple ringers – former NHL player Aaron Volpatti and some help from Kamloops Fire Rescue.”

Cpl. Thomas Blakney says the RCMP are ready for the challenge.

“The Revelstoke RCMP will have ten members and three civilians representing this year. Each year is a great battle and this year we anticipate it being no different,” says Blakney. “With Revelstoke Fire Rescue adding a secret weapon, ex NHLer, Aaron Volpatti, we will be in tough. However we do have the “Yellow Stripe” line. This line is unique and worth the price of admission alone.”

Robinson doesn’t doubt the quality of the RCMP’s team, but he’s not too worried.

“The cops will have a great team as usual, with some players travelling in from other detachments. Last year I predicted a loss for us, but this year I’m predicting a 10-9 shootout win for the Firefighters. We are looking forward to putting on a fast-paced competitive hockey game for the community, but more importantly raising funds for three very deserving charities,” Robinson says.

The game is friendly, but competitive, with each team ready to chirp the other.

“Please be quiet when driving by the fire department, we don’t want to wake them,” Blakney teases.

The annual game is a community highlight. Proceeds going to the BC Professional Fire Fighter Burn Unit, Muscular Dystrophy Canada and Trees for Tots. Admission is by donation, 50/50 tickets are available, concession will be open and the beer garden will be in full flow.
