Revelstoke Youth Monica Parkins Shares her Perspective of Climate Change

Climate change. We all know it’s happening, so why is so little action being taken? Simple. The life we all have is easy, and we like it that way.

People can walk into a coffee shop and walk out with a coffee! Once you have finished that coffee, you drop it in the garbage and never give it a second thought. Some of us take one more step and put it in the recycling. We then pat ourselves on the back, thinking that we’ve done well.

It’s not so easy though. I assume most people have heard of the three R’s, but the thing is, it should be four R’s Refuse, reduce, reuse, and recycle. Bike to work\school week is approaching quickly, and I hope to see lots of people biking, walking, skateboarding, and scootering. Some people may say “I live to far from my work place!” but even if it’s not possible to get to your work place without driving maybe consider carpooling, or even take some time to look at a bus schedule!

I may be ‘just a kid’ but it’s your kids, grandkids, nieces, and nephews, that must live in the in the world we are all destroying. Because that is what we are doing, and I hope that even when bike to work week is over, people will still decide to get to their work place without using fossil fuels, or using less than usual, because eventually the whole
world will be focused on stopping global warming, because us people are the reason this planet will fall…
