The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train rolled through Revelstoke on December 14th 2019. The train may have been running a bit behind schedule, but the festive mood kept everyone in good cheer. There were drinks and food supplied by Starbucks and the Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services, and numerous bonfires kept the chill away. Parks Canada had their beaver mascot making the rounds and Santa and a friendly elf made an appearance. Kids had a chance to check out a local fire truck and a modified howitzer used on Rogers Pass for avalanche control.
The Holiday Train is free event and fundraiser for food banks across the country, with attendees encouraged to donate non perishable foods.
Performers Terry Clark and Dallas Smith sang both original songs and classic Christmas tunes to an enthusiastic crowd. Patti Larson of Revelstoke Community Connections was invited on stage to accept a cheque for the food bank, donated by CP Rail, of $10,000. Mayor Gary Sulz also took the stage to thank both the company and the community.
The Holiday Train is made up of fourteen rail cars decorated with LED lights, and a modified boxcar that has been turned into a travelling stage. The Holiday Train is 1,000 feet long, and left Montreal for its cross Canada journey on November 25th.
