Revelstoke Bear Aware is trying to spread the word about the need to curb poor bear aware behaviour early this season.
A Facebook post for the group notes there is a black bear in the Southside area, predominantly in City and Hideaway mobile home parks.
The bear is becoming habituated to people and is currently unafraid of animals and noise, and is getting into multiple garbages.
“Please if you live in the area, know someone in the area, please tell them to secure their garbage indoors,” the Facebook post says. “Otherwise this bear will become more and more aggressive and have to be killed. We have been out going door to door trying to reach everyone, however, any additional help is much appreciated.”
Wherever you live in Revelstoke, the bears are out for the season and there have been numerous sightings. Please keep your garbage inside or secured until the morning of your garbage collection.
