The City of Revelstoke, in partnership with BC Hydro and the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, have purchased a new John Deere Gator Utility Vehicle (UTV) and Fire Suppression Skid. The UTV went into service on May 15, 2019 following one day of operator safety and pump operation training for firefighters.
“This new utility vehicle will allow our members to respond to calls on the drawdown zone and wildland interface areas
safely and efficiently,” said Dwayne Voykin, Fire Chief “and we would like to thank BC Hydro and the Columbia Shuswap Regional District for making this purchase possible.”
“We are pleased to provide this contribution to enhance wildfire protection on the Arrow Lakes Reservoir flats south
of Revelstoke. BC Hydro owns about half of the land in the drawdown zone and in late spring the dry grass can pose a fire risk,” said Richard Brittin, Director Stations Field Operations, BC Hydro.
“This joint project was designed to add significant capacity to the Revelstoke Fire Department’s ability to resource and
action a fire on the drawdown zone. I am proud of all the people and agencies that worked together to make this
worthwhile project happen.” said Derek Sutherland, Team Leader of Protective Services, CSRD.
