This Saturday, 27 October 2018 at 11am, the grand opening of the heliport at the Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke is taking place. The Revelstoke Current caught up with Interior Health to find out more about the event.
“It’s been a long time coming,” says Kevin Parnell, Communications Consultant at Interior Health of the heliport grand opening. “The residents of Revelstoke have wanted a heliport for quite some time, and we are excited to celebrate the heliport’s completion. There was an incredible amount of community fundraising through the Revelstoke and District Health Foundation (RDF). I hope that the community comes out to see what has been completed, thanks in part to their hard work and dedication.”
Parnell expects the heliport will be utilized frequently. “It has already been used five times since it was certified by Transport Canada earlier in the year,” he says. “We are happy to have it at the hospital if a heli transfer is required. Rather than driving to the airport to transfer a patient, they can be taking off in just minutes from the hospital.”
The grand opening will host delegates from various groups and include several speeches, including representatives from Interior Health, RDF, and the North Okanagan Columbia Shuswap Regional Health District – who were a funding partner. Local physician Cam Moulder will be speaking along with outgoing mayor Mark McKee. “Also speaking will be a couple patients who have been on the air transport,” says Parnell. “We really wanted to do the event justice.”
