Two hours ago, Tennille Barber was headed back into Revelstoke for the holidays when she picked up a commercial truck driver whose vehicle was one fire.
“He said he jumped out of his vehicle while it was still rolling because it was on fire,” Barber says. “He was okay, other than a scraped up elbow. I put him in my truck and gave him a coat until the police showed up.”
The highway has been closed in both directions east of town since then, though Barber says a loader is onsite and starting to clear the debris. The incident occured between Waverly Trail and Corbin Main, six kilometers east of the East Boundary of Mount Revelstoke National Park.
“The driver burned his breaks out,” explains Barber. “His vehicle burnt for almost two hours.”
DriveBC is currently estimated the time of reopening at 11:30 pm.
