Parks Mountain Safety, the Facebook page for Parks Canada, is notifying the public about a closure in Glacier National Park.
The closure is the result of several people entering the Macdonald West Winter Prohibited Area (previously the Avalanche WRA) on Saturday, February 22nd.
“A portion of the West Rogers Winter Restricted Area (previously the Avalanche WRA) will be closed as of tomorrow, February 23 2020, until futher notice,” reads the post.
The Winter Permit System in Glacier National Park requires 100% compliance due to the use of explosives for avalanche control, deployed by Canadian Military personal, in an effort to keep the Trans Canada Highway open as often as possible. The inability to follow protocol leads to decreased access to the back country.
