Obituary Notice – John Augustyn

John Augustyn passed away peacefully at Mount Cartier Court, Revelstoke on Saturday, August 1st, 2020 at the age of 101 years. Prayers were recited from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Thursday, August 6 th , followed by the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, August 7 th with Father Luan Vu celebrant. Interment followed in the family plot of Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke. Pallbearers were Kurtis Prescott, Adam Prescott, John Prescott, Daniel Brown, Steve Frick and Andrew Pawelek. Honorary Pallbearer was John Kostiuk.

John was born in Stopnica, Poland on May 12, 1919 and had been a resident of Revelstoke for the past 65 years. He was a proud Veteran of World War Two and a life- long member of the Royal Canadian Legion. John found great joy in tending to his garden, being out in the forest foraging for wild mushrooms and huckleberries, or any time spent with a chainsaw in his hands. Above all, John cherished spending time with his family, often telling incredible stories or making them laugh with his quick wit and effortless humour. John often spoke of how being useful gave value to life, the importance of having a partner, the meaning of friends in times of hardship, and having a positive outlook in life.

John was predeceased by his wife Emily in 2014, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by two children: Dolores Prescott of Revelstoke and Christine (Barry) Brown of Revelstoke; four grandchildren: Kurtis Prescott of Revelstoke, Adam Prescott of Campbell River, Amanda (Steve) Frick of Salmon Arm and Daniel Brown of Revelstoke; two great grandchildren: Emily and Lucas; one sister Natalia of Poland as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
