Roy E Scott born June 7th, 1935 in New Westminster, British Columbia, passed away on November 5th, 2019 at age 84 in his home-town, Revelstoke, BC.
Roy was a man who loved nature and was most alive when being a part of it. Fishing, boating, hunting and golf kept Roy connected to nature. His career path led him through working for several shoe stores and at one stage managed two different locations in the interior of BC. Driving every weekend to one location and back to the other. This was a challenge to say the least which compelled his decision to move to Revelstoke, where he and his wife, Marion, made their home and lived their lives.
Revelstoke provided the perfect place for Roy to live the way he loved. Even if that meant snow plowing five feet of snow each year! His passion for hunting and the knowledge he gained hunting bears made him a perfect hunting guide for other grizzly hunters. He enjoyed recounting some of the harrowing stories of the hunts he led. Roy also loved a good wager. But only when he felt the odds were in his favour! Yes, Roy knew when a bet was good. He was born with a poker face. Whether the bet be for a game of curling, a bowling match or betting on golf teams in the Revelstoke Golf Club tournaments. Being the club captain for several years gave Roy an insider’s look at all the players and these insights fuelled his competitive edge when betting.
He was a solitary man who was filled with conviction in his views and beliefs. He was selective in whom he let get close to him and was a sincere, faithful, loyal husband and friend. While he may never forget people he felt did him wrong, he had an equally timeless love for those he held dear to his heart.
Roy was a quiet, reserved man who chose his words carefully. If he gave an answer to a question asked of him you could be sure he had considered it in depth before speaking. You learned to be patient in waiting for a response.
Those who were close to him respected his thoughtfulness and allowed him all the time he needed. And this is truly what can be said of Roy in how he conducted himself, how he lived his life and in how he passed away: he took all the time he needed.
For those of us who loved him we’re glad he did. He and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
Roy’s parents were Gladys Lillian Scott and Jonathon William Scott. His surviving relatives are his two brothers Frederick Earl Scott and Bruce Sherwood Scott, his nephews Wade Pearse and Thomas Pearse and his niece, Dawn Macpherson.
A memorial service will be held at Roy’s home in Revelstoke in late spring 2020. This will be announced in the local paper and shared with other local friends who will spread the word as well.
To honour the memory of Roy instead of giving flowers it would be greatly appreciated to donate any amount desired to one of these charities: Revelstoke Hospice Society, Box 3133, Revelstoke, BC, V0E 2S0 or BC Cancer Society, http://www.bccancer.bc.ca/donate.
