It was an enthusiastic home crowd cheering the Grizzlies on tonight as they won the Okanagan/Shuswap Conference Finals.
Thanks to their win, the Grizzlies will be gearing up for a chance to defeat the Kimberley Dynamiters, winners of the Kootenay Conference and the team the Grizzlies lost the KIJHL Championship series to in 2018.
During their final game against the Chiefs for the Conference finals, the Grizzlies were initially down before an unassisted goal by McCallum in the second period tied the score.
Before the second intermission, the Grizzlies had pulled ahead with their second goal scored by Schaeffer and assisted by Bodtker.
The win was cinched with a third goal in the third period by Vandermolen when he took the rebound off of a shot on the Chiefs goalie by Waitzka. Waitzka currently leads the Grizzlies with 15 post-season points (7 goals and 5 assists.)
The third period had the crowd on their feet as the Chiefs pulled out all the stops in their attempt to come back, including pulling the goalie during a power play, which left the Grizzlies fighting six on three in spectacular fashion. The Chiefs were unable to come back, and the Grizzlies took the game 3-1.
Goalie Liam McGarva stopped a whopping 48 shots throughout the game.
The Revelstoke Grizzlies have dominated throughout the playoffs. The team finished their regular season third in the league with 85 points. They have already taken down the Chiefs, who finished second with 88 points.
Their first game against the Kimberley Dynamiters, who finished first in the league regular season with 89 points, for the KIJHL Championship will be starting in Kimberley on Friday, March 29, 2019.
