A Month Of Traffic Accidents Caused By Speeding

In little over a month, since September 1st to be exact, there have been 30 motor vehicle collisions in the Revelstoke RCMP detachment area. Eight of the accidents involved commercial vehicles. There has been only one day of poor conditions.

The latest was a roll over event which occurred Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018 in the early evening near Three Valley Gap.

Revelstoke Staff Sergeant Kurt Grabinsky released the following information.

“Police arrived and located a commercial Western Star tractor trailer tipped over on to the passenger side. The vehicle was blocking both the east bound and westbound lanes. The driver and passenger were transported to Queen Victoria Hospital by BC Ambulance Service with minor injuries. The incident resulted in a three hour road closure to investigate the incident and facilitate clean up. Many other road users were inconvenienced by this incident and can be assured that the professional driver of the semi received a Motor Vehicle Act Violation ticket.

The entire vehicle will be removed from the side of the road between 10 am and 6 pm today.

Considering the recent volume of commercial vehicle incidents in the area, the police would like to remind all drivers that roadways are constructed for safe driving at the posted speed limit. Driving to road conditions means travelling at a rate which ensures the ability to safely maintain your lane and stay on the road. All drivers are encouraged to slow down: drive the speed limit, (or the recommended or variable speed limits), and do their part to ensure that everyone gets to their destination safely.”
