Tractor Trailer Driver Ticketed After Crash and Highway Closure

On Friday January 3, 2020 at 11:40 AM Integrated Road Safety Unit and Revelstoke RCMP responded to a motor vehicle crash, approximately 5 Kilometres west of Revelstoke, BC on the Trans-Canada Highway.

A tractor trailer was passing other motorists in the designated westbound passing lane when it “jackknifed,” blocking both east and westbound lanes.

Fortunately there were no injuries and no other vehicles damaged other than the tractor trailer.

Road conditions at the time of the crash were described as compact snow with sleet.

Traffic was stopped for approximately one hour before re-opening for single lane alternating.

The 53 year-old driver of the tractor trailer  was issued a Violation Ticket for Speed Relative to Conditions contrary to section, 144(1)(c) of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Revelstoke RCMP want to remind motorists to adhere to the rules of the road and drive according to the conditions as further snowfall is expected in the area.  Check with www.drivebc.ca before travelling.
