The results are in. Revelstoke has a new mayor and council.
Front runner from the start, Gary Sulz won by a landslide and is Revelstoke’s new mayor.
“I’m ecstatic, absolutely ecstatic,” says new mayor Sulz. “I’m so excited.”
Revelstoke’s six new city councillors are:
Michael Brooks-Hill, Nicole Cherlet, Steve Cross, Rob Elliot, Jackie Rhind and Cody Younker.
With all the candidates touting the message of communication and public input and transparency, the numbers were close and an example of why every vote matters.
School trustees voted in were Alan Chell, Elmer Rorstad, Garry Pendergast, Sarah Zimmer, and Bill MacFarlane. David Brooks-Hill was voted in as the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD).
Several city councillor candidates and exiting councillors were on hand at the Mayor Sulz’s office as the official numbers came in.
“Anytime you have the faith of people it’s an awesome feeling,” says newly elected councillor Steve Cross.
“I’m excited for Revelstoke, always. There are a couple pieces of it I didn’t expect, but overall I’m happy, incredibly happy,” says exiting councillor Scott Duke. “Way to go Revelstoke!”
The Revelstoke Current is excited to see the direction this new council and mayor take. We all await to see what will emerge as the council’s top priorities.
Thank you to everyone who ran for school trustee, CSRD, council and mayor for your hard work, and congratulations to our new mayor and council. May you have a productive and collaborative term.
