St. Patrick’s Day Tea at St. Francis Parish Center is Worth Checking Out

If you’ve ever stopped into the Winter Tea in the holiday season at St. Francis Parish Center, be sure to check out think the St. Patrick Day Tea (or Spring Tea). After all, St. Francis Parish knows what they are doing. They’ve been hosting a St. Patrick Day Tea for decades.

“I’ve been here 38 years, and when I came it was already an established practice,” says Claudette Kendel. “There were a few Irish ladies in the parish at the time, so maybe they initiated it.”

The event has traditionally been held in march, though for a couple years the parish gave april a try.

“By then it is too late,” says Kendel. “People are in their yards and gardens. So we moved it back to mid march. No one in Revelstoke is doing yard work in March.”

This year, the event is tomorrow, Saturday March 16, from 1 – 3 pm.

The event is a family friendly affair and everyone is welcome. Guests will be served tea, coffee, a selection of finger sandwiches and baked goods. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 5-12 years old.

“There is a culinary table, which is a table of baked goods available for purchase,” says Kendel. “There is also a cake raffle – you buy tickets for specialty cakes parishioners have made.”

In addition to the cake raffles, there is a large door raffle.

“The prize is amazing,” she says. “Lawrence Hutnyk donated an amazing, handcrafted cedar picnic table. The benches and table top are all finger jointed together to create solid surfaces. It is a work of art.”

Tickets for the table will be sold until 3 pm, when the winner is drawn. They are $2 each or 3 for $5.
